At Christopher Whitehead Language College, we believe in nurturing both academic excellence and personal growth, offering a wide range of opportunities for students to thrive inside and outside the classroom.

Curriculum Highlights

Broad and ambitious curriculum designed to prepare students for their future and to enable them to achieve the English Baccalaureate Key Stage Three: English, mathematics, science, history, geography, a modern foreign language (French, German, Spanish or Mandarin), art, music, drama, dance, PE, religious studies, computing and ICT, and PSHE Key Stage Four core subjects: English, Mathematics, Science (double or triple award), Modern foreign language, Humanities, Physical Education, Religious Studies, PSHE In year 9, students spend time investigating their next steps and select two additional subjects to study in Years 10 and 11 Key Stage Five: students select 3 or 4 courses from over 28 subjects, including A-levels and vocational courses Enrichment programme and Impetus programme; opportunities for independent learning and careers guidance Enrichment activities such as living independently, cooking on a budget, debate club, Crochet, Couch to 5K, Football, music club

Admissions Criteria

The school's admissions policy prioritises Looked After Children and previously Looked After Children, siblings, staff children, and those with proximity to the school, with a published Year 7 PAN of 284 for 2023. Applications are online via Worcestershire County Council and must be submitted by 31 October 2024. The policy also notes that the school seeks up to 10% of students with proven aptitude for foreign languages, and includes detailed criteria for catchment and distance, attendance of linked primary schools, and random selection in equi-distance cases. In-year admissions are coordinated by the Local Authority. Admissions outside the normal age group can be requested and will be considered by the Headteacher after educational assessment. The Sixth Form has a published PAN of 110 and its own oversubscription criteria and appeals process.
