Curriculum Highlights

The curriculum is broad and balanced and carefully planned to ensure that content is thoroughly revisited so that learning is consolidated and sustained. We operate a 3:2 curriculum model with three years assigned for the delivery of our Year 7, 8 and 9 programmes of study and a flexible two-year curriculum in Years 10 and 11. A large proportion of our cohorts will be entered for the English Baccalaureate (EBacc) as this provides an academically broad and balanced curriculum. There has been a significant improvement from 2018 data; in 2022 CVEA recorded highest ever basic measure 9 to 4 E/M (69%) and 9 to 5 E/M (54%). The numbers of students accessing EBacc has gone from 6% in 2018 to 56% in 2022. There is a strong focus on developing healthy and active students, emotional well-being, resilience and a love of learning, with emphasis on careers education based on Gatsby benchmarks. British values (democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect) are taught explicitly and vocabulary is developed across subjects. Prior knowledge is carefully built to access the curriculum, supported by a pastoral programme and ongoing curriculum planning.
