Curriculum Highlights

The curriculum is organised in Pathways that are responsive to each learner, with progression within pathways and the ability to move between Pathways for different curriculum areas. The curriculum uses Wyre Forest Progression Steps as a tool for next steps in learning, with evidence captured on Evidence for Learning and assessments recorded on SONAR to inform planning and whole-school development. There is a focus on Independent Living Skills and Life Skills (including travel training and functional Maths and English), supported by a high staff-to-pupil ratio and opportunities for outdoor learning.

SEND Provision

Wyre Forest School provides on-site nursing and medical support; Physiotherapy (including on-site Hydrotherapy), Speech and Language Therapy, and Occupational Therapy; development of communication skills using Signalong, PECS, Eye Gaze, VOCAs and other specialist ICT; Independent Living Skills (including LIFT training to support independent travel); sensory programmes in multi-media rooms (soft play, light and dark rooms); classrooms equipped with hoists and bathroom management; progress monitored against EHCP targets with annual reviews; involvement of on-site NHS staff and access to external professionals; family support offered through the Supporting Families Team and safeguarding/online safety policies to ensure pupil welfare.

Admissions Criteria

Post-16 admissions are discussed as part of the annual Careers and Transition strategy from Year 9 onwards. Places in Sixth Form are considered on an individual basis and agreed by the pupil, parent, Wyre Forest School and the local authority. Many pathway 4 learners leave at the end of Year 11 to move into college or training, while others may continue their education at school before progressing to adulthood. For questions, contact Rebekah Thompson, Deputy Headteacher/Post-14 & Post-16 Pathway Leader.
