Ethos & Values

The Steiner Waldorf Curriculum aims to nourish and develop the innate gifts and potentials of each child so they may become responsible, fearless and free individuals who think clearly, observe perceptively and act constructively for the good of the world. The ethos is based on Rudolf Steiner’s pedagogy that human beings are a complex interaction of body, mind and spirit, and developing each of these aspects prepares children for life. Recognising and taking care of the spiritual or inner life of children distinguishes Waldorf Education; the 'spiritual' or 'soul' is not religious but the inner aspect of being human that is not material. Teaching draws on contemporary research and approaches, but remains rooted in Steiner’s writings and practice, emphasizing care for artistic beauty, mood of the classroom, practical skills, inclusion, and engagement with society and the natural world.

Steiner Academy Hereford recognises the spiritual or inner life of children as the inner, non-material aspect of being human; Waldorf education emphasizes this inner life rather than religion.

Head Teacher's Message

Kate Andrews, Academy Principal, states: Our vision is to enable children to have a full experience of childhood that can nourish and develop their innate gifts and potentials so that they may become responsible, fearless and free individuals who think clearly, observe perceptively and act constructively for the good of the world.
