Head Teacher's Message

Headteacher Mrs M. O’Neill presents Hope School as an attachment- and trauma-informed learning community for 68 pupils aged 5–11 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs and neurodivergence. She emphasizes a whole-child curriculum, regular assessment, and her visible leadership presence, inviting parents to schedule meetings via the school office.

Curriculum Highlights

Bespoke, progressive curriculum aligned with the National Curriculum Maths taught using White Rose scheme with fluency, reasoning and problem-solving English taught through an immersive analysis and writing sequence with Read, Write, Inc for phonics and Brilliant Publications for comprehension Extensive vocabulary development across subjects using word mats, dictionaries and working walls Reading is embedded across the curriculum with a strong emphasis on developing a love of reading and writing Hook lessons to immerse pupils in topics and a progression-focused approach to learning

SEND Provision

Hope School provides SEND support with a SENDCo (Miss A. Hill). As of September 2025, 68 pupils are on the main roll receiving some form of SEN Support. The school is described as Dyslexia friendly and uses interventions such as Talking and Drawing Therapy, Sand Tray Healing, Seasons for Growth Bereavement Intervention, and an attachment/trauma informed approach (THRIVE). Staff support includes specialist SEN knowledge, and there is collaboration with families and external services as needed. The school notes an internal process of monitoring provision through learning walks, work scrutiny and data analysis, with termly reviews of vulnerable groups’ progress.
