Curriculum Highlights

Curriculum 2020 is made up of three tiers: Personal Development; Participation; Making Good Progress. Personal Development includes four areas: being at school, communication, being safe and healthy, and moving on. Participation is split into four areas: learning together, community, belonging and difference, and activities. Making Good Progress includes four areas: human, creative, STEM and functional. The autumn term 2023 project is Brilliant Biomes (human curriculum project for that year). Each child has an accreditation pathway that can include ASDAN awards, NCEF Functional Skills certificates and iGCSEs via Cambridge. Accreditation pathways are supported by school staff and external professionals (e.g., educational psychologists) for individual progress.

SEND Provision

The Lioncare School is a specialist educational setting linked to The Lioncare Group’s residential provision, but equally able to accept children living elsewhere. The curriculum is tailored to individual needs and rooted in developmental trauma, aiming to help children come to terms with difficult life experiences, consolidate areas of strength, view education positively, and, where possible, achieve qualifications and progress to mainstream education, work experience or college placements.

Admissions Criteria

The Lioncare School accepts pupils aged 7-16 on admission. The Lioncare Group residential homes accept children aged 6-15 on admission, with Springfields and Westfields for 6-10 year olds and Hillfields for 12-15 year olds.
