Friendship Hope Respect Perseverance Wisdom Trust

Selsted Church of England Primary School describes itself as a Church of England school built on Christian values and a love of learning. The school aims to provide a safe, nurturing community and to develop students who feel known, accepted and valued, with Christian values including friendship, hope, respect, perseverance, wisdom and trust. RE is taught using the Understanding Christianity scheme to promote religious literacy, with the aim of helping pupils understand Christianity and other principal world religions, develop their sense of identity and belonging, respect others’ beliefs, challenge prejudice, and consider responsibilities to themselves and others within wider society.

Head Teacher's Message

Welcome message from Headteacher Mrs Angela Woodgate; the school is built on Christian values and a love of learning. Nurture is at the heart of all we do and Selsted achieved Nurture UK accreditation in April 2025. The school emphasizes that children feel safe, loved and cared for to thrive academically, and aims to develop the whole child through a balanced curriculum and learning opportunities including trips and visitors. The motto is highlighted as part of the school identity.

It offers a range of interventions (e.g., Sensory Circuit, Clever Hands, Fizzy, Nurture, 1:1 reading with Luna the school dog, Emotional Regulation, Toe by Toe, Lego Therapy, Pupil Mentoring, Small group English and Maths) and makes arrangements to support pupils with physical disabilities. The school follows the LEA inclusion approach and maintains an accessibility plan. It provides information on the Local Offer and signposts to external services through Kent. There is a More Able and Talented (MAT) provision and a SEND policy (Selsted-SEND-Policy May 2025).

Admissions Criteria

The school has an admission limit of 15 pupils per academic year. Pupils are admitted at the beginning of the September term or when space is available. Admission decisions consider parental wishes, denominational preferences, current family association with the school, health reasons, and nearness to home. Admissions forms are issued by the school or LEA and processed by the LEA, with the right to appeal to the Area Director.
