Head Teacher's Message

A warm welcome from Headteacher Mr Richard Boulton emphasizing a caring, high-expectation community with strong partnerships with parents. The message highlights high standards, a reading-focused curriculum, and pride in student achievements across academics, sports, and the arts; the school’s learning hub supports modern learning through ICT and library resources.

Facilities

Learning hub (built September 2023) containing a well-resourced library and a computer suite

Curriculum Highlights

The Wood End Curriculum is broad and balanced, with reading at the cornerstone of learning. A dedicated learning hub with a well-resourced library and computer suite supports ICT in learning. Curriculum is designed to be cross-curricular and to build on prior knowledge across all subject areas.

Wraparound Care

Breakfast club is available to Nursery children from 7:45 to 8:45 (includes a light breakfast). Jousters 'After School' club will also be offering places for Nursery children. 30 hours free childcare available; self-funded full day is £27.50.

Admissions Criteria

Nursery admissions follow Hertfordshire policy. If applications exceed places, the school uses a set of criteria in order: Children Looked After; medical or social need; named SEN (Statement); sibling at the school (unless in last year of age-range); nearest school; and distance to the school. The school aims to allocate places fairly and ensures each session (morning/afternoon) has appropriate staffing and meets curriculum objectives.

Financial Information

30 hours free childcare. Any hours beyond 30 are charged at £7.33 per hour. A self-funded full day is £27.50 (8:45am–3:30pm). Packed lunch may be required for full days. Nursery sessions are 8:45am–3:30pm with 15 hours funded weekly for eligible children; parents are responsible for applying for 30 hours free childcare via HMRC and may enter voucher codes if eligible.
