Head Teacher's Message

Headteacher Kelly Holbrook describes Longbenton High School as an aspirational, truly comprehensive 11–18 school with a modern building and strong KIDMAP values. Since becoming headteacher in 2020, she notes transformation and improvement, the school being graded Good by Ofsted in 2022, and the school being heavily oversubscribed with strong performance in GCSE and A‑level outcomes (e.g., 2024 results showed top‑5 LA position for 5+ basics and 21% of A‑level students achieving A*/A).

Curriculum Highlights

Strong emphasis on creative subjects such as music, drama, art and technology. KS3 is a 3-year program and KS4 a 2-year program with a total of nine GCSE/BTEC subjects studied. Option process between Year 8 and Year 9 to enable GCSE study and better engagement. Broad Ebacc-aligned curriculum with strong uptake in humanities, arts, and computing/ICT; notable inclusions of Art, Music, Drama, PE, Business, CACHE, Photography and Computing/ICT. 1:1 music tuition and LAMDA drama classes. Extensive extra-curricular opportunities including Chess Club and Guitar Legends; lunch-time PE clubs; annual ski trip to Italy; theatre productions at Whitley Bay Playhouse.
