Hurst Knoll St James' is a Voluntarily Controlled Church of England Primary School linked to St. James' Church in the Parish of the Good Shepherd and St. John the Evangelist Church at Hurst Cross. Reverend Carol Schofield visits regularly, leads assembly once a month and is a school Governor. The school works closely with the Parish and Manchester Diocese to meet spiritual needs; Collective Worship is Christian in nature.

Curriculum Highlights

Phonics taught daily using Read Write Inc KS1 and EYFS phonics follow Read Write Inc; KS1 reading sessions linked with Read Write Inc White Rose Maths scheme with NCETM and Classroom Secrets for mastery French taught from Year 3 using Language Angels Charanga used for Music in EYFS/KS1; KS2 music with Tameside Music Service; instrumental lessons and singing RE follows the local SACRE/RE syllabus; Christianity and other religions studied SCARF PSHE curriculum (Relationships and Health Education guidance followed) Geography/History emphasise local links and world-wide context; History topics from Year 3–6; local museums/venues used for learning
