St John’s Church of England Primary School is a Church of England school with an embedded partnership with the church. Worship is central to daily life, and the school emphasises Christian values as part of its community. The school’s SIAMS inspection (May 2023) graded 'Good'. The mission statement is Love of God, Love of Neighbour, Love of Oneself.

Sports
Wraparound provision - we are able to offer 'wrap around sessions' for parents who are not eligible for the 15 hours free extended provision but would like their child to have a full day in nursery. These sessions are chargeable at £10 per session and can be added onto the morning session to enable your child to stay for the full day. Your child will require a packed lunch or you can purchase a school lunch from which is currently £2.56 for nursery children.

The Government and local arrangements state that St John’s follows Tameside Council's Admission policy. The school has one intake of children in Autumn each year for Reception, and Reception class is usually admitted in the September following the child’s 4th birthday. Applications for places in Reception are dealt with by the Admissions Department at Tameside Council. Nursery intake is also described, with 15 hours free provision (8.45am–11.45am) or 30 hours free care provision (16 hours – 8.45am–3.15pm).
A voluntary contribution of £1.20 per week is requested for snacks in Nursery.
