St Thomas Moorside C.E. (V.A.) Primary School is a Church of England school and part of the Dove-Shell Federation. The school follows the 2023 Manchester Diocese syllabus for Religious Education, which supports systematic study of one religion at a time and thematic units, enables exploration of beliefs and worldviews, and aims to develop knowledge, wisdom and understanding, religious literacy, curiosity and reflection, and open exploration of religion and belief within diverse traditions and non-religious worldviews.

Head Teacher's Message

St Thomas Moorside is a small one-form-entry primary school in a federation with East Crompton St James’ Primary School. It emphasises partnership with parents, a broad, balanced, imaginative and challenging curriculum, a Christian ethos of care and friendship, strong relationships with the church community, and high-quality teaching and pastoral support to help every child reach their potential.

Curriculum Highlights

Curriculum built around three termly topics per year group with a prime learning challenge and subsidiary challenges Weekly Philosophy for Children (P4C) enquiries to support PSHE Read Write Inc phonics taught to support reading and writing from the early years Art & Design and Design & Technology blocks totaling 14 hours per year with an artist in residence Geography and History taught with dedicated weekly time (Geography ~45 minutes, History ~45 minutes) Science taught 1½ hours per week in Key Stage 1 and 2 hours per week in Key Stage 2 Physical Education delivered for 2 hours per week per class by sports coaches Music delivered by Oldham Music Service with weekly class sessions and Wider Opportunities for Year 4; choir and other activities KS2 Spanish taught using the BCC Languages scheme, with native speaker delivery and intercultural understanding
