Merchant Taylors’ is academically selective. Entry paths include: Prep (Reception to Year 6) with tours, a report from the child’s current nursery/school, and a Familiarisation Session; Year 3–6 spend one or two full days with us and take a Cognitive Abilities Test (CAT) with no preparation required, plus a reference from the current school. Progression from Prep to Senior School requires no further entrance assessment. Senior School entry (Year 7–11) uses a computer-based Cognitive Abilities Test in early November; the top 25% are invited to an Academic Scholarship Day with English and Maths assessments and an interview with a senior academic leader. Mid-Year Entry (Years 7–10) involves a Taster & Assessment Day including CAT, time in lessons, and an interview with senior staff, plus a reference from the current school. Entry to Sixth Form is via application; offers are based on predicted or mock GCSE grades and an interview; final places are confirmed after GCSE results in August.
