Carleton House is a Catholic independent school in Liverpool. The school motto is They can because they think they can. It follows Catholic faith principles, with strong parish links (Bishop Eton) and a Catholic identity reflected in policies and practice, including the Live Simply Award for sustainability, solidarity and service. RSHE is taught using the Archdiocesan programme Journey in Love, and the school follows the Liverpool Archdiocese Religious Education scheme.

Curriculum Highlights

English uses the Ready Steady Write scheme of work, with progression from Reception to Year 6; focus on writing, spelling, grammar, and reading for pleasure; ESB exams for Year 6. Maths follows the White Rose Maths scheme with a mastery approach (CPA: Concrete, Pictorial, Abstract); emphasis on fluency, reasoning, and real-life applications. History employs an investigative approach with chronological understanding, cross-curricular links, and historical enquiry. Geography emphasizes fieldwork, map skills, physical and human geography, and global citizenship. Computing is delivered by a specialist from MGL World, with Bee-Bots, Scratch Jr, Scratch, and Python; strong emphasis on online safety. Design Technology covers the full design-make-evaluate process, hands-on making, and DT Week; integration with computing. Art focuses on media exploration, collaborative projects, and cross-curricular links with other subjects. Spanish is taught by a specialist, developing listening, speaking, reading, and writing with cultural awareness. PSHE uses the Jigsaw scheme, focusing on social-emotional learning, health and wellbeing, relationships, and personal development. Religious Education follows Liverpool Archdiocese RE scheme and Journey in Love; Catholic identity and Live Simply Award. Music includes weekly curriculum lessons, instrumental lessons via Pulse, and opportunities to join the school orchestra and perform at events; choir performs publicly. PE is taught by a specialist, with a broad programme across KS1 and KS2 including swimming, athletics, and other sports.

Wraparound Care

Breakfast Club: No After-School Care: Yes

After School Kids Club operates on site from the end of the school day until 6.00pm during term time. Online Booking System is used. A minimum of 24 hours’ notice is required to cancel places. Staff include Miss Devereux (Manager) and several Assistants. Fees: 3.25pm-4.30pm £8.60; 3.25pm-6pm £12.60 (including a snack). Out of Hours contact: 07802722071.

SEND Provision

Nutrition is a priority: meals are freshly cooked on site by a dedicated chef. Menus are regularly updated with child feedback. The school caters for all dietary requirements. Daily options include a meat and a vegetarian option, with sides of fresh seasonal vegetables or salad. There is also a daily jacket potato option or homemade soup. Week-by-week menus are published.

Admissions Criteria

When allocating places, the Headteacher—supported and ratified by the Governing Body— considers: support for the school ethos including Catholic values; suitability to meet the child’s needs; application submission date; whether a sibling attends; priority for Nursery pupils for Reception; positive engagement with Open Mornings or PTA events; and SEND/medical information to plan reasonable adjustments. Reception places allocated in Autumn term for the following academic year; Nursery places in Spring term for the following year; Nursery and Reception admissions are handled separately. Siblings and current Nursery pupils receive priority if requirements are met.

Financial Information

Fees and charges from September 2025: School Lunches are compulsory for Reception to Year 6 (£916.00 per year). For Pre-school pupils, school meals are optional (£916 per year). A non-refundable registration fee of £50.00 is required upon submission of the application form. Fees can be paid annually, termly, or monthly.
