Head Teacher's Message

Head Teacher’s Welcome describes St Andrew’s Infant School as a happy, caring and thriving two-form entry school for ages 4–7, offering high-quality early years education in a welcoming environment. It emphasises promoting independence, care and respect, an engaging curriculum delivered by highly skilled staff, and traditional Christian values such as love, forgiveness, respect, honesty and trust.

Curriculum Highlights

Layered Learning approach linking Geography, Science, RE, History and DT in six-week cycles to build language and knowledge across subjects. Layered Learning Maps for each year group (Reception and Year 1/Year 2) with documented units (e.g., Owl Babies, The Hungry Caterpillar, The Enchanted Woodland, Moon Zoom!, etc.). Units of work from PlanBee for History, Geography, DT and Art (5–8 lessons per unit) to provide cross-curricular exploration. Kapow Science units (six 90-minute lessons per unit; two units per term) to cover KS1 science through practical investigations. Music taught using Withers Music scheme with weekly lessons. Religious Education follows the Coventry and Warwickshire Agreed Syllabus for RE, using Understanding Christianity and related units with weekly 60-minute RE lessons. PE taught with Primary PE Planning; KS1 has two 45-minute PE lessons per week; Reception has daily activity and weekly PE lessons. PSHE taught using the Kapow PSHE scheme with EYFS themes (My Feelings, Special Friendships, Taking on Challenges, Listening and Following Instructions, My Family and Friends, My Well-Being) and KS1 themes (Family and Friendships, Health and Well-Being, Safety and the Changing Body, Citizenship, Economic Well-Being). Mathematics taught using Mathematics Mastery (Ark Curriculum) with a six-part lesson structure and daily 15-minute Maths meetings to develop mathematical language and fluency. English taught with Little Wandle (Revised) for reading and phonics; daily phonics for Reception and Year 1; regular reading practice sessions; handwriting taught via the Letter-Join scheme; Talk4Writing; Power of Reading (CLPE).

Wraparound Care

Premier Kidz Club provides term time wrap around care on site: 7:30–8:40am (breakfast included) and 3:20–6:00pm (£9.50).
