Curriculum Highlights

The school places high importance on teaching reading through a very systematic, rigorous and progressive approach to phonics when children start school, alongside access to rich and high-quality children’s literature. There is a strong focus on fluency in Mathematics and its use in everyday life. Curriculum design focuses on core books, key questions and big ideas to drive learning. The curriculum is underpinned by shared British Values and aims to provide clear purposes and contexts for learning. The school emphasises partnership with Parents and Carers to build trusting relationships and support children to achieve high aspirations. The curriculum is inclusive, reflective of learning needs, with a strong emphasis on language development and pastoral care. Opportunities are included to teach pupils to challenge their own and others’ thinking and to expose them to new ideas and possibilities. There is a commitment to partnership with other organisations, especially in the Arts, enrichment opportunities and extracurricular provision, while ensuring fundamental skills are securely acquired.
