The Headteacher presents Selborne as a large, 3-form-entry school with about 660 pupils, emphasising the motto Inspire and Achieve, high Ofsted ratings (Outstanding in 2017 and 2023), and a strong focus on values, inclusion, and community.

Curriculum Highlights

Selborne follows the National Curriculum with a coherently planned scheme of work for PE, differentiating lessons to ensure inclusion and aiming for at least sixty minutes of physical activity per day; pupils develop knowledge, health and fitness, and life skills such as teamwork and leadership; reading is a core skill underpinning all subjects and there is emphasis on substantive knowledge and vocabulary alongside a broad, balanced curriculum. The curriculum emphasises British Values and the development of knowledge, understanding and transferable life skills, with progression and assessment across year groups.

Wraparound Care

After-School Care: Yes

Our After School Club childcare provision (from 3:15 – 6pm) is completely separate and run externally by Boom Sports on our school grounds. This is childcare (snack provided, help with homework and a planned sports session) and all fees related to this are collected by Boom Sports in advance.

SEND Provision

Selborne has an Additionally Resource Provision (ARP) with 21 places for children with Autism, Social Communication difficulties, Speech and Language difficulties and other complex learning difficulties. ARP admissions require an EHCP; referrals are made by the SEND Assessment Team; ARP pupils integrate with the main school for part of each day; ARP admissions are through the SEND Assessment Team; ARP start timings are 8:55am for a 10 minute soft start and end at 3:25pm.

Admissions Criteria

Selborne has an ARP with 21 places for children with Autism, Social Communication difficulties, Speech and Language difficulties and other complex learning difficulties. Entry to the ARP requires an EHCP; referrals are made by Carmelita House SEND Assessment Team; if we can meet the child’s needs, an ARP visit and admissions process follow. Children cannot move into the ARP from the main school; all ARP admissions are through the SEND Assessment Team.
