"Once BRIT – Always BRIT"
The BRIT School is described as the UK's leading free school for performing and creative arts. It emphasizes creativity, inclusion, and a robust academic/artistic curriculum, with a mission to train young people for careers in the arts. The motto is “Once BRIT – Always BRIT,” and graduates widely enter creative industries or higher education. The school highlights its free-to-attend model, industry-aligned training, pastoral care, and strong outcomes for students.
BRIT School has two intakes: Key Stage 4 (ages 14–16) and Post 16 (ages 16–18). Applications are made via an online form and, if successful, applicants are invited to a practical workshop/audition. The school accepts students from most of Greater London and some parts of Kent and Surrey, with up to 10% of places allocated to applicants from outside the catchment area on exceptional merit. The year is organised into five terms of approximately eight weeks with holidays between terms. There are two Open Events each autumn term. The school is free to attend, but there are bursaries to support travel costs and other needs; some activities may incur charges (non-curriculum visits, peripatetic music tuition, and some equipment). Additional Educational Needs support is available, and applicants with an EHCP will be supported by the AEN Department. The school emphasizes a robust selection process and pastoral support throughout admissions.
