The Sylvia Young Theatre School is non-denominational.

Admission decisions are based on audition performance, academic tests and school reports/information. There is no fixed admission deadline; applicants are seen throughout the year. The audition process applies to both fee-paying and scholarship places. In the online application, applicants must upload the latest full school report and a photograph; vocational audition pieces and a full academic test (English and Maths) are required; three-day academic week requirements must be feasible for the applicant.
Fees are charged per term per subject. From Spring Term 2025, VAT at 20% is added to fees. New students pay deposits per subject and, in some cases, booking fees. Refunds are available only within defined early weeks of term and for certain cancellations. Online booking is used and childcare vouchers are accepted.
