Curriculum Highlights

The National Curriculum subjects (English, Mathematics, ICT, Science, History, Geography, Art, Music and PE) and Religious Education at Key Stage 2. Literacy and Numeracy are taught daily with extra reading and writing activities. Religious Education follows the Tower Hamlets SACRE agreed syllabus; Discovery Scheme of Work. Physical Education includes Gymnastics, games, dance, outdoor activities; Year 5 weekly swimming; specialist coaches may support delivery. History and Geography are taught as part of topic work to build global citizenship (e.g., Chocolate topic). Science topics cover magnets, materials and evolution with a focus on investigative skills. Art and Design and Music taught; specialist music teachers; Year 6 pupils can choose to learn an instrument. ICT: ICT suite, class sets of iPads, interactive whiteboards and a class computer; learning includes researching on the internet, publishing, coding and multimedia. Spanish is taught in Years 3–5 for at least 45 minutes per week; many pupils become multilingual by Year 6. PSHCE and Relationships and Sex Education taught with content decided by the Governing Body in consultation with parents. Educational visits include Science Museum, British Museum, art galleries, Royal Festival Hall, London Zoo and Tower of London. Extended school learning opportunities include after-school and lunchtime clubs (e.g., basketball, football, Spanish, maths, cooking, ICT, board games, Bengali, craft, Bollywood dancing, aerobics, Y6 boosters, ice-skating, English for beginners). Charging policy: educational visits may require voluntary contributions; transport is funded by Transport for London where possible.

Breakfast Club runs between 8:00 am – 8:50 am. After-school Club runs from 3:30 pm – 4:30 pm.

Admissions Criteria

Lawdale follows Tower Hamlets oversubscription criteria with a priority order: Priority 1 for looked-after/previously looked-after/adopted or those with Special Guardianship; Priority 2 for strong medical or social reasons; Priority 3 for catchment-area children with a sibling at Lawdale (including linked infant/junior schools); Priority 4 for catchment-area children for whom Lawdale is the nearest community school; Priority 5 for other catchment-area children; Priority 6 for those outside the catchment. Years 3–6 applications should be made via Pupil Admissions (Mulberry Place) or the Tower Hamlets website, with evidence of address as required.
