Tuke School provides SEND provision through a multidisciplinary team (physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists and special school support assistants) and a Movement Opportunities via Education (MOVE) programme. The school adopts a total communication approach and uses signs, symbols and objects of reference to support communication; MOVE is a centre of excellence aimed at developing functional mobility and independence.
Tuke School can meet the needs of 11–19 year old students who have a range of learning disabilities including severe and complex, sensory and physical, autism and challenging behaviour. The Local Authority is responsible for providing documentation for placement, and students may start at Tuke on an assessment placement. Students on placements have an Education Health Care Plan (EHCP); EHCPs are reviewed annually. There is an open door policy, and the school provides a prospectus and essential policies to parents.
