Age range of students the school accepts

Understanding Age Range

The age range shows the youngest and oldest students the school admits. This defines what year groups are present and helps parents understand if the school covers their child’s educational journey.

Common Age Ranges

Primary schools: - 4-11 (Reception to Year 6) - 5-11 (no Reception) - 3-11 (including Nursery)

Secondary schools: - 11-16 (Years 7-11, no sixth form) - 11-18 (Years 7-13, with sixth form)

All-through schools: - 4-18 or 3-18 (full journey)

Why Age Range Matters

Understanding age range helps you: - Know which transitions your child will face - Plan ahead for next-phase schools if needed - Understand the school community’s age mix - Assess sixth form options

For Parents

Consider whether you prefer: - Fewer transitions (all-through schools) - Fresh starts at key stages (separate primary/secondary) - Sixth form on-site or moving to college

Each approach has merits depending on your child’s needs and preferences.
